10-Day China Itinerary

China is huge, and you could spend months exploring it. If you have about ten days, your goal isn’t to see everything—it’s to choose a route that gives you a good introduction to the country.

For a first trip, I recommend Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, and Shanghai. Together, these four cities show you four very different sides of China: imperial history, ancient civilization, relaxed local life, and modern development.

Days 1–3: Beijing

Beijing is the capital of China and the best place to begin exploring China’s history, culture, and national identity.

  • Tian’anmen & Forbidden City

  • The Great Wall

  • Summer Palace or Temple of Heaven

  • Beijing hutongs

  • Peking duck

Days 4–5: Xi’an

Xi’an was one of China’s ancient capitals, and it makes the country’s long history feel more tangible.

  • The Terracotta Warriors

  • The Ancient City Wall

  • Big Wild Goose Pagoda

  • Traditional Chinese Costumes

  • Noodles & roujiamo

Days 6–7: Chengdu

Chengdu shows you a slower, more relaxed side of China and offers a closer look at everyday local life.

  • Chengdu Panda Base

  • People’s Park and teahouses

  • Kuanzhai Alley

  • Royal-style Banquet (Shuyanfu)

  • Sichuan food & hot pot

Days 8–10: Shanghai

Shanghai brings you into modern China, with a fast-moving, international atmosphere.

  • The Bund & Shanghai skyline

  • Former French Concession

  • Cafés, shopping, and exploration

  • Shanghainese food & soup dumplings

In 10 days, you won’t see all of China—but this route will give you a great introduction to the country.

You can take this itinerary and plan the trip yourself. But if it’s your first time and you’d rather explore China with more guidance and support, you can travel with me through these four cities on a small-group China tour.

When you travel with us, hotels, three meals day , transportation, attraction tickets, and local guides are all arranged for you.

I speak fluent English, and I understand what can feel confusing and overwhelming for first-time visitors to China. I’ll help communicate your needs and take care of little problems along the way, so you can relax and fully enjoy the trip!
