10-Day China Itinerary

China is huge, and you could spend months exploring it. So for a first trip, your goal is not to see everything — it’s to choose a route that gives you a good introduction to the country.

If you have about ten days, I’d recommend Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, and Shanghai.

Together, these four cities show you four very different sides of China: its imperial history, ancient heritage, relaxed local life, and the energy of modern China.

Days 1–3: Beijing

Beijing is the capital of China and the best place to begin understanding China’s history, culture, and identity.

  • Tian’anmen & Forbidden City

  • The Great Wall

  • Summer Palace or Temple of Heaven

  • Beijing hutongs

Days 4–5: Xi’an

Xi’an was one of China’s ancient capitals, and it makes the country’s long history feel more tangible.

  • The Terracotta Warriors

  • The Ancient City Wall

  • Big Wild Goose Pagoda

  • Traditional Chinese Costumes

Days 6–7: Chengdu

Chengdu shows you a slower, more relaxed side of China and offers a closer look at everyday local life.

  • Chengdu Panda Base

  • People’s Park and teahouses

  • Kuanzhai Alley

  • Royal-style Banquet (Shuyanfu)

Days 8–10: Shanghai

Shanghai is one of China’s most modern, fast-moving, and international cities.

  • The Bund & futuristic skyline

  • Former French Concession

  • Cafés, shopping, and exploration

In 10 days, you won’t see all of China—but this route will give you a great introduction to the country.

You can take this itinerary and plan the trip yourself. But if it’s your first time and you’d rather explore China with more guidance and support, you can travel with me through these four cities on a small-group China tour.

I’ll be with you throughout the journey to help with communication, explain cultural differences, and handle the little problems that come up along the way — so you can relax and fully enjoy the trip!
